“Based on a true story” isn’t always a guarantee that a movie will be good, but it is in the case of Saving Mr. Banks, which stars Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. The true story is about how Walt Disney (played by Hanks) managed to persuade the Australian-born writer, P.L. Travers, to let him turn her classic children’s story, Mary Poppins, into a film in 1964. She didn’t like the idea but Walt used all of his considerable charm and the rest, as they say, is history. Saving Mr. Banks will be released in the United States shortly before Christmas. It is due to come to Italy in February.
