Our DVD this month is Hitchcock, which was first released in 2012. It is a “biopic” about Alfred Hitchcock and his attempts to make the ultimate “scary movie,” Psycho (which was shot in 1959 and released in 1960). Anthony Hopkins has the title role, while Helen Mirren plays his wife, Alma Reville, and Scarlett Johansson is Janet Leigh, Psycho’s unfortunate “star.” Hitchcock also looks at Ed Gein, the serial killer who partially inspired Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs.
