Students with at least a lower intermediate level of English can combine their language programme with a course in Film Studies and Filmmaking at two highly prestigious establishments right in the heart of Hollywood. In the morning English lessons are taken at Kings Colleges (15 hours per week) and in the afternoons there are six hours of classes in Film Studies at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, one of the world’s leading institutions for performing arts, which is only a short walk from the Kings College campus.
The course lasts 12 weeks and covers such aspects as film history, script writing, acting and production, as well as introducing practical filmmaking skills. Students explore all the iconic film locations in the Los Angeles area, studios, as well as other industry-related venues. A monthly visit to an exhibition at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and a subscription to the Academy’s periodical are also included. Students make their own short film or documentary and the best one wins an award.
Three-week taster courses are also offered from July to September for students who wish to combine their vacation with an introduction to film in the film capital of the world!
