Extraordinary English! Courses with a Difference

Febbraio 2014
English in (Old) York

di ELCS - The English Language Consultancy Service

Perhaps the greatest attraction of the United Kingdom is its history and rich cultural heritage, and where better to begin exploring all this than the city of York? Founded by the Romans in AD 71, York’s 4 km of city walls are (along with Chester’s) the best preserved in England.
Constantine the Great was proclaimed Emperor here in AD 306, but in 866 York was captured by the Vikings and it became a major river port for trade across Northern Europe.
The English Language Centre York has created a course for those who wish to combine language study with visits to historic houses and gardens in and around York. The course is open to anyone over 16 years of age who has a B1 level of English. There are 15 hours per week of morning classes in small groups and four afternoons are dedicated to visits to such fascinating places as the mediaeval Treasurer’s House (pictured), which is also famous for its ghosts (!), and the 18th century Castle Howard set in 1,000 acres of landscaped grounds and gardens in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just 15 miles from York. Courses run from April to September and students can enrol for one or two weeks. All transport costs and entrance fees are included in the course price. Half-board family accommodation and self-catering residences are available.
